We've all heard the saying the health is greater than wealth. For most of us, we primarily believe in this saying however, we don't really live up to it. I too, am guilty that I take my body for granted, pushing myself past my limit in order to achieve financial freedom. Usually, we neglect what our body is saying, like how it needs rest, nourishment and strength. We neglect it because we prioritize other things. But I am hoping that these blog will convince you that your health is your number 1 asset.

What is an asset anyway doc Damian? I can hear your thoughts from miles aways, even if you are from other country. An asset technically is resource that hold monetary value and are expected to provide future economic benefits. So does this mean that our body is an asset, then we will have to sell our organs to gain money? Of course not, dummy! Take a look at the definition that I just mentioned, and lets dissect it one by one why our health is our top and number 1 asset. If we are not healthy, how will be able to function properly and go to our jobs in order for us to gain salary? If we don't care for our body, how can we maintain and sustain our employment that provides for our income? You see, we have to maintain our health in order for us to function properly as a human being. If we are health, we can work, we can play, we can take care of our loved ones and most especially we can continue living and loving life.

I've seen a lot of patients in my clinic and even in past affiliated government hospitals wherein they neglect their body, only to have pushed their illness to terminal complications. Some patients informed me "I will miss my work doc, that is the reason why I did not sought consult." I understand these sentiments, however we have to keep in mind that our health should be intact. Yes you will miss your work, but would you rather miss your appointment to your doctor and later on miss the wedding of your son or daughter just because you weren't healthy enough to reach that age? Are we really living for the sake of working, and not for the sake of taking care of our body and enjoying life?

We can continue working, we can continue enjoying and at the same time continue being healthy. I always tell my patients, "It is much better to see the patient at the clinic because they are seeking how to prevent an illness rather than because they will consult to seek treatment." So hopefully, this will give people an insight why they have to take care of their health, that goes with physical and mental health.

Remember, seek consult for disease prevention. And seek consult with your friendly internal medicine doctor, that is me Doc Damian! :)
